Aaaaahhh! I can't believe I'm about to release this baby into the wild. You can pre-order it now on Amazon (it will only initially be released as an e-book) by clicking here.
I want to take you on a little journey with me to discover where this idea came from.
It's 2012, late summer, Chris (my now husband) and I decided to do a three week tour of France holiday. Although I grew up over there, I hadn't really visited the country so we set off from Calais, down to my Dad's house in Dreux where we stayed for a few days before heading down to the Loire Valley.
Here, this is where the idea came to me. Sat in the passenger seat of my little Ford Fiesta, the sun scorching outside, the air-con keeping us cool, driving past fields and fields of wheat. Evie popped into my head as an english girl who for some reason would be forced to come to France for the summer and inadvertently met a French farmer.
With hours on the road, the story slowly gained traction in my mind until it was fairly well developed. However, at this point I'd never written a novel. It was a mere idea, a fantasy.
It wasn't until a few years later, 2019 to be exact, after writing a few other novels, developing my skill, that I actually sat down to write Evie's story. And boy I'm glad I did.
I love this novel, I love Evie's journey of self discovery and also it reminds me a lot of my childhood. A lot of the scenes are pulled from actual memories or events that happened whilst I lived there, including the village dinner and the fair. The nightclub is inspired by a small bar in a nearby town to where I lived, although I never went there it was well known with it's Caribbean theme.
We used to go to Le Mans a couple of times a year to go shopping and I've been back there as an adult exploring so it features quite heavily in the novel too.
I hope it makes you feel like you are there with Evie and learning all about rural France and it's culture, or what I know of it from growing up in Normandy.
I want to know if you've ever been to these places, leave me a comment below.
