A Day In the Life

I love seeing behind the scenes of a writer's life, because I think as readers we just assume they write and that's it but I'm here to tell you, that's far from the truth.

I did a quick reel the other day that showed behind the scenes but I'm going to do a bit more of an in depth one here. We are obviously all different and work in different ways but here is a little insight into what my day looks like.

First thing in the morning (of my work day), I sit down a write an intention. It sets my day up and manages my expectations of what I can achieve, gets me in the right mindset. For example today's intention is to take the pressure off and see what happens.

It's the summer holidays and I am at home with two little ones, so rather than pressuring myself into achieving everything under the sun, I'm taken the pressure off, no expectations and what will be will be.

Then, I write down 2 to 3 things I want to achieve in my work day, depending on how long I think they will take.

Today, I want to write this month's blog posts (see what I'm going here!), research five agents and draft my first chapter of my new project.

I'm at the stage with my previous project where I'm getting ready to query it, so I'm researching Literary Agencies and agents who might be a good fit for my work and shortlisting them.

I haven't written in over a month now, so after outlining my next project, I feel ready to jump into the drafting phase, which is both exciting and terrifying in equal measures. This is just for "fun" at the moment, as once I get feedback from my beta readers on my previous project, I will go back to that.

I try and dedicate the morning to working and the afternoon to playing, but depending on how much the kids let me work, it might bleed over slightly but that's the premise. I like to log off work mode after lunch to then be fully present with the kids.

My daily tasks also involve posting and interacting on social media, packaging up book purchases for One French Summer (which you can buy in paperback here) and writing social media captions.

All in a days work...

Is there anything that has surprised you or you didn't realise a writer did?

Thanks for reading
